This evil force was cast out of heaven along with its dark angels to earth. Revelation 12:9 It is known as the devil, satan, the adversary, or the enemy.
He is an angry spirit, plotting evil, and working against God’s plan for redemption, restoration, and eternal life.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:11-12
Thank God, we do no need to be threatened, or fear the enemy because God has equipped us with heavenly armor designed to defeat him.
There are 6 pieces of heavenly armor a Christian can use in spiritual warfare with the devil and experience victory every time:
1 — Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins Ephesians 6:14
Truth is a Godly value. It is our spiritual belt of protection around our loins — the core of our body. The bible says that we must worship God in spirit, and in truth. John 4:24 God loves truth because he has made Jesus the way, the truth, and the life John 14:6
When we walk, speak, and live in truth, we know that we are spiritually protected by God because it is his nature. God does not like lies. That is what the devil does.
The bible says satan hates truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies it is consistent with his character, because he is a liar and the father of all lies John 8:44
2 — And having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God, Ephesians 6:14
Again a divine value. This is righteousness we are talking about here. Goodness, a do-right heart and spirit. No hidden agendas when we talk or speak or act.
Our intentions are good and Godly and we mean no harm against another. God loves this character trait in his people, in his Holy Nation, and amongst his peculiar people. Trying to make things right should be at the core of our being.
It is a reflection of God and his goodness and so we must wear it as a spiritual weapon of honor on our breast, we are made in his image, it is who we are, it is our identity.
3 — And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:15
Every moment of every day we want to hold the peace of God in our hearts and spirit.
Things may be chaotic around us, temptations lure, problems come up, and things may look bleak, but if we have the peace of God within us, we have stability wherever we go, wherever we walk, whatever path we take.
We are grounded and have spiritual protection. The bible says for us to guard our hearts because it determines the course of our life Proverbs 4:13
A miserable, pessimistic, and depressed heart will lead us to a life full of that.
We then become vulnerable to Satan’s attacks. We must make sure we guard our hearts and maintain peace, then we will stand strong against the enemy.
4 — Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one]. Ephesians 6:16
Faith is our shield! Every dart the enemy whips our way, God will intercept, and it will fall dead to the ground.
What is faith? Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen Hebrews 11:1 We must hold onto our faith everyday, wake up with it, declare it, and protect it.
The more we hear the Word of God the more it will grow. Romans 10:17
The enemy stands not chance against our rock hard shield of faith!
5 — And take the helmet of salvation Ephesians 6:17
Are you saved? Have you repented and accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?
Do you believe God raised him from the dead for the remission of our sins?
This is our foundation and spiritual covering and protection. Jesus is Lord, above all, through all, and in all. He is mighty to save and mighty to deliver.
Go through the day knowing you have the protection of God over you. He who dwells under the secret place of the most high, shall abide under the shadow of the almighty Psalms 91:1
6 — And the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God. Ephesians 6:17
So far we’ve went over our armors of defense. The Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, is our offensive weapon!
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow Hebrews 4:12 .
If you can imagine how a metal sword can pierce through flesh and bone, that is how the Word of God pierces and guts the enemy.
The Word of God is our empowerment, of supernatural favor for us, and keeps the enemy at bay. Jesus did not come to bring peace to this world, but to be our Sword Matthew 10:34
Don’t let a day go by without speaking the Word of God!
