*This post is for those who suffer from MILD depression. If you suffer from more serious symptoms, please seek PROFESSIONAL help.
It may not feel like it right now, but I’m here to remind you that Christian believers are blood-bought winners and more than conquerors!
Jesus came so that we can have life and have it more abundantly. He came so that we can have joy, hope, and peace everyday. This is our spiritual birth right!
On the other hand, we know we are fleshy beings as well, living on this earth of corruption, sin, and temptation.
Where the enemy — the devil — has deep roots, and stronghold power.
He is in high spiritual places devising wickedness, defeat, and death. He is a liar and a thief and he does not like you. Or me.
One thing he aims to steal is our joy. Without any joy, we live meaningless and purposeless lives. We live in a state of depression. It is a hallow existence. Everything seems hopeless, life is not worth living, and we have no peace.
If you are a Christian believer, and are living in a state of depression, here are 3 bible verses to meditate on to overcome the depression abyss:
1 — Nehemiah 8:10 — Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
It’s important to understand that depression is a weapon of the enemy to attack those who do not live with Jesus as LORD over their lives.
If we are living outside the will of God, and pursuing our own will, we are targets for depression because we are choosing to live and operate according to the world’s rules — not God’s.
So first and foremost, it’s important to evaluate, or reevaluate ourselves and make sure we are depending on the Lord for everything and not ourselves or anybody else.
We must make sure we are leaning on him, and him alone (not him and astrology). This is where we are empowered to live our lives daily. This is where we discover our divine destiny. His grace is sufficient for us, his strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Cor. 12:9).
2 — Matthew 10:39 – He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.
In this scripture Jesus makes it clear that if we try to pursue our own will and direction for our lives, it will fall through our fingers! But if we sacrifice our wills for his, we find true riches of abundant life.
Most of us live a ME existence. That’s our nature. It’s all about ourselves, and the people we care about — forget everyone else. This is exactly where we spiral into depression because it’s not about us — it’s about Jesus!
If we focus on the Lord and spreading the GOOD NEWS of his existence and salvation, we will find joy in the little things and in everyday because our GREAT King lives inside of us.
3 — Matthew 6:33 — Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
We have all at one point — maybe even now — been stressed out by life’s demands i.e. bills, expenses, debt, lack of resources etc…
Some fall into a depression, even live the rest of their lives with a chip on their shoulder with God.
Situations and circumstances seem hopeless. It’s hard to sleep through the night. We walk more and more by sight than by faith. We pay more attention to our feelings and emotions than how God can carve a way out for us.
And just like we are overcome by our problems, we are overcome by depression.
However, Matt 6:33 makes it clear for those who are depressed from life demands: Focus on God, his Kingdom, and righteousness FIRST, and we will be provided for — our needs and demands will be taken care of.
When our focus and drive in life is Jesus, when we live and breathe for him, it’s impossible for depression to take root in our bodies — the Temple of the Holy Spirit.
We can walk in stern faith, joy, hope, and love, spreading God’s Word to the nations with a smile on our face.
